Crossroads Art Center, in partnership with The Poe Museum, announces an open call to artists for "Of Mystery and Imagination", a juried exhibition celebrating the influence of Edgar Allan Poe. Any original 2D or 3D work will be considered for this exhibition. All accepted artworks will be exhibited online on and some pieces will be exhibited live at Crossroads Art Center. A portion of proceeds from this exhibition will benefit The Poe Museum.

SUBMISSION DATES & HOURS: Tuesday, November 5–Friday, November 8, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.

ARTIST NOTIFICATION: Sunday, November 10, 2019

ONLINE EXHIBITION DATES: November 15, 2019 – January 5, 2020

LIVE EXHIBITION DATES: Works selected for the live exhibition will be hung in Classroom Two at Crossroads Art Center, 2016 Staples Mill Road, Richmond, Virginia.

ENTRY FEE: The submission fee is nonrefundable $25 (US) for up to 3 entries.

HOW TO ENTER: All submissions must be submitted in person during the specified submission dates/hours to Crossroads Art Center at 2016 Staples Mill Road, Richmond, Virginia 23230.

Completed entry forms, along with the $25 entry fee, are required to complete submission. The entry fee can be paid beforehand or at the time of submission.


All hanging work must be wired for hanging with professional-grade wire. Screw eyes are accepted, but D-rings are preferred. Pieces with saw-tooth hangers will not be accepted. Ensure corners of frames, whether metal or wood, are tightly joined and have no scuffs, scrapes, or chips.

Artists with accepted artworks will be required to prepare and send digital files of entries for the online exhibition and promotional purposes. Digital files must meet the following specifications. Please email images to
• Files must be in JPEG or PNG format with a resolution of 300 dpi and the longest dimension being no more than 6'' and saved at a maximum quality level.
• Images should be clear and in focus. This represents your work and how it is displayed online.
• Images should be labeled accordingly: Artist Name_Title_Size_Medium_Price.png

All work must be for sale. Artists will receive 70% of the sale price.

Crossroads Art Center will accept only original fine art and photography, handcrafted by the artist. The gallery reserves the right to refuse delivered artwork if the frame is in poor condition, or if the work is not properly wired. Signing the entry form denotes agreement to the terms and conditions as stated in the entry information.
