I love painting the model, but on days when we don't paint the model we can do a still life or a scene out the window. This was a no-model day and I am not in love with still lifes, but I'm fond of this studio school view out the window. I had to add the dog!
Artist Statement:
My art work is always about the world as I see it, skewed through my
brain, my molecules, my nervous system, my flesh, my eyes. Not
detailed, not precise, but generally benign and welcoming, my
paintings rejoice in the physical world and hint at a spiritual one.
My style is often described as containing whimsy, if not outright
humor. The oil and cold wax medium allows my loose style more free
range to play with texture and layering. Along with applying paint
with a brush, I carve into the medium with a carving tool so that
creating the paintings feels almost sculptural, but with the
advantage of rich coloring. I began my artistic journey at a very
young age as the child of an artist so that as soon as I could hold a
pencil a crayon a paintbrush I was encouraged to express myself.
Early on I was drawing portraits while simultaneously filling my
notebook margins at school with doodles and the spewings of my imagination.>
Evenually the styles merged so that my drawings from
life are filtered thru my imagination. Add color, and viola! You get
the Jennifer Yane vision of the world
