Hopper, Robert Henri, and John Sloan.  Like the Ash Can School, Mr. Heath’s paintings have a limited color palette, bold colors, and explore light\/dark contrasts within the picture plane.  His subject matter explores old neighborhoods, sheds, and houses.  This results from spending time walking and photographing, searching for the right light at a particular moment.  When experimenting with abstract expressionism Mr. Heath embraces rich paint surfaces and emotional brush work.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e Mr. Heath is a native of Vienna, Virginia where he first learned color theory and the principles of painting in high school art classes.  He recalls being inspired by other talented students.  He came to Richmond in 1972 to study art at Virginia Commonwealth University.  He left school to enter the apprentice program at a local bank and has been working as an operating engineer in the data center for 32 years.   He is looking forward to retiring and being able to paint full time.  He has been a student of Christaphora Robeers for 6 years and has been represented by Crossroads Art Center for 6 years.  His work has been accepted into many juried shows in central Virginia and won several awards, most recently 3\u003csup\u003erd\u003c\/sup\u003e prize for his painting \u003cem\u003eStorm over
