For as long as she can remember, when Julie Matre needed to escape or regroup, she would look at a picture or any random pattern and get lost in it. Counting the colors and textures evokes an almost dreamlike state, floating from one shape to another hypnotically. The more complicated the image, the deeper the immersion. All art, abstract or not, is subjective and is sometimes hard for the artist to express in words. The end goal for Julie is to find a calm, soothing, decorative feel among the layers of emotion that were expelled during her creative process. Each finished piece possesses an ethereal quality, offering something different to venture into when viewing her work.
Julie is a native Virginian. She studied art education at Radford University, was an international flight attendant for Pan American World Airways, and had a 15-year career in telecommunications. Currently she works part-time at Crossroads Art Center.
