Lily Snow Boykin

Lily Snow Boykin’s work is influenced by her Japanese heritage and her environment.
Her compositions are reminiscent of her family’s home in Japan, extremely visual and
tactile. She experiments with a range of design, textures, and glaze applications. Her
approach includes manipulating contrasting colors, shapes, and patterns to create
cohesive compositions. Though Lily’s background is in painting and drawing, she found
her passion in clay. The immediate, physical interaction with clay challenges her
constantly to push to the next level. Her ceramic work is predominately created by
alternative firings such as the Japanese inspired raku firings and barrel/pit firings.

In November 2017, she was selected to host a featured trunk show at the Virginia
Museum of Fine Arts during the opening weekend of Terracotta Army: Legacy of the
First Emperor of China. Over the years, her work has been juried in numerous all-
media art shows and included in the Artisan Display: Handcrafted Stories exhibit at
the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in December 2017. Lily’s work was juried in the
Workhouse International Clay Invitational (Fairfax, Virginia) in 2018. Lily’s ceramic
art was included the CURRENT Art Fair (October 24, 2019 through October 27, 2019)
in Richmond, Virginia. CURRENT, Richmond's first contemporary art fair, features
works from local, national, and internationally recognized artists.

Lily’s work was chosen for an exhibit slated for February / March 2020 at the newly
constructed office of the investment firm, Wells Fargo Company – River Hills Wealth
Management Group in Richmond, Virginia. The show was curated by noted artist Julie
Matre along with the firm’s managing primary partner, Kamran Raika. The exhibit
included paintings, drawings, ceramics, and other fine art created by selected artists in
the Richmond, Virginia area. Though the show was halted due to the Covid shutdown,
the investment firm purchased the entire art exhibit for its corporate collection.

An ongoing display of Lily’s gallery work may be found at Crossroads Art Center
(Richmond, Virginia).
