Artist Statement
Yilva Martinez Kalmanson spent many years working in advertising before moving to the United States where she began studying oil painting. She has been painting for nearly 30 years and works primarily in oil on canvas. Often, the artist does not know exactly what she is going to paint until she starts a new project and discovers an emotional connection to her subject. In recent years, Yilva has explored several aspects of depression in her work expressing her feelings with oil on canvas or simply drawings on paper. She believes that viewing her paintings is not just an experience with a work of art but an encounter with her innermost feelings. She strives to deliver her emotions to the viewer by creating a sense of beauty and inner reflection using intense colors and surreal imagery. For the artist, every brushstroke counts and she plans to continue painting and exploring her deepest emotions for the rest of her life.
