"Joy" is a dynamic interplay of blue, pink, and green hues. The blue is cool and calming, representing serenity and balance. The pink is bold and commanding representing energy and passion. The green is lush and rejuvenating, representing growth and renewal. A subtle movement across this work helps bond this harmonious, yet dynamic, visual experience that evokes a sense of joyful emotion. The combination of the flat, domed top and openings provides an interesting interaction of light and shadows, giving this piece a dynamic sculptural quality.
Artist Statement
For several years as a young man growing up outside of Philadelphia, I was very fortunate to study art under the amazing abstract artist, Barbara Crawford. In the early 1970s my family moved to Greenville, South Carolina where I continued to create art on a limited basis. Then, on to college at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I married my college sweetheart, Bonnie, and moved to Richmond, Virginia where I took a hiatus from art, joined the corporate world and focused on helping raise two phenomenal children. Recently, I have been able to, again, embrace my love of abstract art. Believing that an abstract canvas is an essential component of the abstract experience, I design, build, stretch, paint and frame all of my unique work. I’ve often said that the complexity of my work can be found in its simplicity.
