Artist Statement

I am fascinated by the juxtaposition of elements that create unexpected relationships and stories, using size, characters and setting to send the viewer on a visual journey through my pieces. In the past year I have developed a style using painted abstract backgrounds (employing similar line work to that which I used in glass) and applying carefully curated collage elements, but I have begun to translate this concept into large scale oil paintings using everyday objects instead of abstract line and shape to support the structure. Drawing on the absurdity of the Dada movement, dream-like quality of surrealism, and pragmatism of contemporary art, my hope is that each viewer sees a unique and intriguing story unfolding before them.
