Mary Elizabeth Miller
Mary Elizabeth Miller graduated from Covenant College in 2015 with a BFA in Painting. She currently lives and works in Richmond, Virginia.
Mary’s work in watercolor has evolved from a meditative practice she began in preparation for her senior art show in college. She committed to a daily rhythm of collecting commonplace objects from her surroundings – specimens, if you will – and then painted those objects in watercolor as a way of engaging in stillness and wonder. She still returns to this practice as an act of discipline and a reminder to see the beauty in everyday life. The saturated color and elaborate attention to detail in these paintings enable her viewers to see these otherwise mundane items from a new, more appreciative perspective.
Currently, Mary is creating multi-media figurative art that honors members of her community and fellow makers.
