Artist's Statement:
Originally from Warsaw, Poland, I have called Northern Virginia (USA) home for over 40 years. Until my retirement in 2014 I employed my engineering and naval architecture training in the designing and building of ships and other sea-faring vessels all over the world. My influences range from the stunning fractals found in nature to the bold works of abstract art pioneer Vasily Kandinsky. Working in assemblage, I primarily use cardboard, recycling and traditional “waste” materials to create impactful multi-layered wall sculptures. At times I branch out from my predominantly abstract, monochromatic work to create more vibrant scenes and vignettes inspired by my own travels and by my grandchildren’s many interests. This more whimsical direction extends to many of my acrylic paintings, in which I focus on fusing geometric shapes and playful textures. At times, my focus shifts and seeks to inspire my audience to consider more sobering questions - What space do we occupy in the universe? Can harmony exist between order and chaos? How can art depict this frontier between known and unknown?
