Juror's Comments for the September All-Media Show: Congratulations! It was my pleasure to be the juror for this exhibition. While I wish I could have viewed all the artwork up close and in person, the pieces I ultimately chose held my attention through multiple virtual viewings. I was drawn to artworks that revealed the artist’s hand through linear tracings and expressive gestures. And I was captivated by color and light that was both luminous and mysterious.
I was also especially keen to see how these artists might be using their studio practices as a means to reconcile the unprecedented times we are currently living. It was uplifting to discover many works that turned to nature in some way, whether through light, color, or subject. Interestingly, returning to “the garden” has been clinically proven to create a heighten sense of wellbeing and many of these works offer quiet scenes of tranquility and contemplation.
