The Virginia big-eared bat is an endangered species of bat that is found in the mountains of Virginia. Over the years I have had the opportunities to survey their populations in both their summer and winter roosting sites. They have truly spectacular ears!
Artist Statement:
I draw inspiration from nature and want to share the joy and appreciation I have for it with everyone. Clay as a medium is inherently tactile, and the way it feels while sculpting and the texture of the finished piece, adds as much life and movement to a sculpture as the shape and color. For my work, it's all about the details. I really enjoy focusing on the little things that are easily missed, like a snail on the stem of a flower or the way the shape of an eye can evoke an emotion.
