Sven + Tolley
Wolfgang Jasper
Wolfgang has been a professional artist for over 45 years. Born in northern Germany, he emigrated with his family to the United States at a young age. After becoming an American citizen in the late 1960s he was drafted to serve in Vietnam. Surviving this, he completed his fine arts education in Virginia, obtaining his Master of Fine Arts degree from VCU in 1981. He taught Art Foundation Drawing and Advanced Drawing classes in the VCU Arts department for over 20 years. During that time he was also a faculty member at the VMFA Studio School. He was simultaneously a professional portrait photographer from 1971-2020. His oil and wax paintings, and charcoal drawings, are created from what he considers the collective unconscious. His works have been collected and exhibited in many parts of the United States and abroad, including Germany, France, Belgium, Uzbekistan, Russia, South Korea, and China. Wolfgang also works in photography, digital art, ceramics, sculpture, and collage.
Beth B Jasper
Beth, a native of Hampton, VA, graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCUArts) with a BFA in Painting and Printmaking. She currently works and resides in Richmond, VA. Her art has been exhibited nationally and internationally and is in multiple private collections. Drawing has been an outlet for her imagination all her life. She chooses not to be confined to any one medium, genre, or subject. She works with oils, charcoal, ink (often homemade from natural materials,) scratchboard, photography, digital media, and ceramics. She is currently working on a body of work that combines her paintings, drawings, and photographs with video and animation for large-scale digital projection.
Beth and Wolfgang participated as co-residents at Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris in 2019 and 2022, for 2-month residencies each time. Those experiences have informed their more recent work as they not only had the beauty of Paris, the rich cultural history and all of those museums, but also the benefit of exchanging and discussing art ideas with artists in all disciplines from all over the world.
Sven + Tolley
Sven + Tolley was born as a product line of the photographic and digital art of Wolfgang and Beth. They began this medium in 2004 in Photoshop before the existence of smartphones, apps, or digital filters! Nature is the inspiration and subject matter. The name Sven + Tolley was derived from their middle names given at birth.
Today, the Sven + Tolley product line focuses on photographic and digital art, as well as surface design for fabric, wallpaper, and other products. All photographic and digital prints are available.
