Tom Anderson

After retiring from custom homebuilding, Tom Anderson his eye for architecture as a starting point to create art. He has studied under three respected local teachers and attended numerous workshops, offered by both nationally and internationally renowned artists. Drawing on this background, he has been able to paint all types of subject matter, from landscapes and street scenes to portraits of the people he encounters in his travels.

Tom finds much of his inspiration for painting from extensive travel along the eastern seacoast towns of eastern and western Europe, especially Portugal, France, and Spain. His palette reflects both the soft warmth and the strong contrasts of the dominant colors of these locations. His love of the boats and the water is seen in the vivid blues and crisp whites of his seacoast paintings. His depiction of people in their natural surroundings draws the viewer into their world.

Tom works in oils and watercolor, dependent on subject matter. He recently returned from a sketching and painting trip to the west coast of Italy, where he painted daily. These paintings are part of the group show, "Tuscan Adventure—From Cinque Terra to Florence," in March 2015 at Crossroads Art Center and then on his Crossroads gallery wall.
