Carved Oak, Shellac Based Patina with Pigments and Wax

My sculpture of two feet resting on a chair, is a meditation on perseverance, memory, and the quiet dignity of the human experience. The worn, static posture of the feet suggests a moment of rest.
Artist's Statement:
For the past twenty years I have been working predominantly in wood and stone believing in the potentials of these traditional materials.
When working in wood, I am inspired by the strength, resilience, and beauty of wood. Each piece of oak carries its own history, marked by years of growth and the environmental forces that shaped it. My carving process is a collaboration with wood. I am trying to create a connection between the past and the present, transforming wood into contemporary forms and modern sensibilities.
When working in stone, I am interested in a dialogue between precision of geometric forms and fluidity of organic lines. My work explores the tension between these two realms, carving stone sculptures that embody both the rigid structure of the geometric and the softness of the organic forms. The geometric forms in my sculptures symbolize the power of symmetry, balance, and proportion. The organic forms bring a sense of vitality.
