This landscape started as a winter, glacial, ocean scene but wasn't working. It has many layers of color and I almost gave up on it until I added the turquoise to the sky and suddenly, it came alive!
Artist Statement:
Vegas born, Alaska raised and currently residing in Virginia. I have been an artist as long as I can remember breathing. I have worked in the arts as a singer in bands and musical theatre, a sign painter, a make up artist and I owned a face painting business for many years. In this season, I am reuniting with my first love, Oil Paint.
Oil painting allows me to express my emotions more than singing them. My most addictive and greatest state of flow happens when I work intuitively using a pallet knife and gloved fingers (my own of course!) I find it very interesting that when I use a brush, my work becomes much more calculated and bold. My intention is to bring these two processes together to best voice my ideas, dreams and faith.
I am an enrolled tribal member of the Han Gwich’in and come from a family of land protectors. You will find most of my work is upcyled art that has been painted over and in thrifted or gifted frames.
