This spalted american beech ikebana vase was hand turned on my lathe.  The top ring is African blackwood.  The finish is clear satin acrylic.  The flowers used in the arrangement are silk.  The duration of the exhibit precluded using live flowers.

Artist Statement:

I decided for this exhibition to have my submissions follow the theme of Functional Art. Each of the three pieces submitted have strong artistic elements and also perform a specific function. These functions are as follows. A yarn bowl that is used by knitters to hold their yarn while working on their creation. A garlic keeper used by cooks to keep there garlic cloves handy while preparing a delicacy in their kitchen. Lastly an ikebana vase used to create beautiful flower arrangements that are works of art in their own right. All these pieces were created from mostly native wood species and hand turned on my lathe.
