Pumpkins are my favorite autumnal symbol. They provide cheerful color and delicious flavor, and can even light up the evening as the days grow shorter.
Artist's Statement:
I work in collage because my inner child likes to cut and tear paper, arrange the pieces, and play with glue. The selection of the right paper is an important part of the process; I like using “found” paper, such as magazines or catalogues. A few years ago I was paying a bill and noticed that the security envelope it came in was lined in an interesting and complex pattern. I began to pay more attention to every envelope that came in the mail and soon discovered an amazing variety of designs, but a narrow range of color. The restricted color palette, the limited size of the paper, and the abundance of pattern come together to inspire the mosaic-like forms I create from paper meant to be discarded.
