Oil on Canvas
16" x 12"
The subject and namesake of this portrait is my brother, Jack. His face is seen through a drinking glass - a view I had of him as we were waiting for our food while out for dinner.
Through painting, I express my feelings and perceptions of the world around me and how I navigate these emotions. I primarily work with oil paints and use vibrant underpaintings, outlines, and rough brush marks to translate my thoughts onto the canvas. I use paint to both document my childhood and past, and to look towards the future. The majority of my work is figurative and depicts myself, my family, and the people around me, or are landscapes of places that are important to me. Although the subject matter may be different, I have the same motivations behind my work - I use my experimentation with color and form to capture the essence of the person or place, and capture how I feel towards it.
