This is part of my Reflection Series. We have a mannequin in the store window of Saks Fifth Avenue in New York. We see the Mannequin overlaid with reflections of a truck, car, bicycle and the buildings of Rockefeller Center. We also see the awning above, bronze window frame and marble siding.
Mike Haubenstock, based in Glen Allen, Virginia, paints landscapes and still lifes in oil. He is inspired by architecture, natural scenes and colorful displays. Mike's painting is representational. He wants you to be drawn in by color and depth, by a painting that inspires, that creates continual interest, and that perhaps whets your appetite. Mike frequently picks a theme and paints works in a series to experiment with variations. His Reflection series shows the interior of a building (often mannequins or restaurants) with the reflection of scene opposite in the window glass. Reflections include buildings, cars, people, trees, etc, creating two paintings in one. His International Recipe series is inspired by his love of cooking. These paintings show the ingredients in favorite foods and drinks, and the vessels in which they are prepared, ranging from Spanish paella to Negroni cocktails. His many stlll lifes of fruits and vegetables include a wide range of subject matter and sizes. Recently he has been working more with a palette knife, giving an additional layer of texture and depth. The intent is to be representational, but also to show brush strokes and to vary edges so as to look more like a painting than a photograph. Mike is a member of Oil Painters of America, the James River Art League and the Metropolitan Richmond Artist Association. He has permanent space at Crossroads Art Center and is pleased to have shown pieces in juried shows at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen (Glen Allen, VA), The Weinstein JCC (Richmond, VA), the Crossroads Art Center (Richmond, VA), Uptown Gallery (Richmond, VA), Municipal Gallery (Escondido, CA), and San Diego Art Institute (San Diego, CA).
