This piece was thrown on the wheel and hand built. I wanted to create a large piece to combine the two methods, and leave room for surface design. The design is loosely based on a border of beloved coneflowers. As of this writing, they still bravely resist heat and deer.

Artist's Statement: 

I believe there is great satisfaction and joy in using pots made by hand in daily life. I work with stoneware clay and paint and carve surface decoration on thrown and handbuilt functional forms. My designs are typically inspired by nature. The intricate and stunning shapes and patterns found in nature add rhythm and movement to surface design and to life. Using handmade pottery adds elegance to daily routines and rituals. I have enthusiastically studied and been taught by clay for many years, and I am inspired by each new lesson.
