Mixed Media Collage
20 x 16 x 0.5"
This was originally a discarded painting given to me by an art teacher. I loved the beautiful fall colors and it made a beautiful background for a mixed media collage. Fall is my favorite season and thus the title, “Autumn Celebration.”
Upon the occasion of my 60th birthday, I was given a surprise gift that would ultimately change my life. My friends took me to a paint and sip event where we all painted our version of a snowy scene. Though I loved the camaraderie of a shared creative experience, I did not like my painting. I could not bear to throw it away and so it sat in a corner for months.
Then one day I happened to see some collage at the hospital where I work that inspired me. I immediately thought of my rejected painting and set to work to reinvent it with collage. I loved the process of taking something discarded and transforming it into a new creative expression.
Soon I had friends and art teachers giving me their unwanted paintings to use for collage. Four years later, here I am! I love recycling art into new expression. I hope seeing my work brings you as much joy as it brings me to make it!
