The first layer is acrylic paint. Then alcohol inks were laid on top and manipulated into the background to simulate grasses and touches of the sky. Over all of that, the red poppies were created by painting encaustic wax with a hot iron.
Raised in the gorgeous state of Vermont I am a self-taught mixed media artist inspired by color and nature with a curiosity about life and people that fill this universe. To my complete surprise, I discovered painting later in life and have since acquired a newfound appreciation for the skill, patience, and dedication required. I have taken a few online courses and instructional techniques on YouTube. I have immersed and expressed myself in the creative and sometimes abstract process utilizing acrylics and then expanded my horizons into the mysterious worlds of the ever-elusive bold and vibrant alcohol inks, the richly textured encaustic waxes as well as cold wax and oils. I have found beloved pet portraits are in high demand. Intrigued by color, movement, luminous light effects, reflections, and intuition I follow my creative heart wherever it may lead on my journey. At times I may take photographs or use a compilation of several photos as references. Most of the time ideas bubble up in my head. I love sharing my art and obtain great satisfaction when it is appreciated by others.
