I was inspired by the pebble textures and highlights in the water against the dark shadows in the leaves.
Artist's Statement:
All of my work reflects a profound appreciation for the environment. To this end I strive to create art that is a poetic rather than a literal depiction of my subject matter. In giving myself this license I can more fully express the essence of the natural world’s beauty and life force. I am constantly discovering new possibilities -- from realism to abstraction, precision to blurred suggestions of undulating form.
My artwork is characterized by an innovative and versatile use of imagery, textures, and mark-making as I push the boundaries of my media. I work primarily in watercolor, gouache and dry media (colored pencil and graphite).
My design sense is the result of my initial training as a textile designer, in that I am always concerned with patterns and rhythms which I find in natural forms, either from my own photographs or from scientific websites.
