Artist Statement:
My artistic journey began in 3rd grade at Pleasant Valley Elementary School when I won first place in the pumpkin carving contest with my "mouse" pumpkin. It was then that I discovered pumpkins weren’t just for carving—they were blank canvases waiting to be transformed with paint and decoration. Since my parents wouldn’t let me use a knife, I let my creativity flourish through paintbrushes, and my obsession with pumpkins evolved into a lifelong passion for art.
Over the years, my artistic pursuits have grown beyond pumpkins to include bold, vibrant acrylic paintings that often reflect my love for color and creativity. You may have seen my work at the Bon Secours Reinhart Guest House, the Virginia State Fair, on Richmond Animal League flyers, or rolling through Richmond on the Lemonade Stand to raise money for Children’s Miracle Network. My commissioned pet portraits, featuring expressive colors and personality, have brought joy to many homes. Most recently, I’ve been captivated by creating one-of-a-kind wood door hangings that are essentially paintings for your front door. Inspired by the idea that if we hang art on our walls, why not extend that creativity to our doors? This led to the creation of Door Du Jour 9, a collection of bold, colorful acrylic paintings designed to celebrate the month, season, holiday, or just your mood. Whether it’s to welcome guests or simply add a unique flair to your home, these door paintings bring art to the everyday and honor the hardworking presence of the door itself. Through my work, I strive to bring joy, vibrancy, and personality to every space—whether it’s on a canvas, a pumpkin, or your front door.
