Peaches in Bloom
Oil on Cradled Wood Panel
16 x 20 x .5", framed 18 x 22 x 1.5"
$700
Every year, I visit a nearby peach orchard, hoping to catch the trees just as the buds are breaking. I go back often while they are in bloom. It is a fleeting beauty and when in full bloom, the fragrance is heavenly! This is painted in oil on a cradled wood panel with palette knives, and brushes.
Artist Statement:
My work is a visual record of my life experience. Moments captured in paint on canvas. It might be a comical situation with the chickens, a sweet moment with a grandchild, or an interesting view seen while out walking.
Creating art is an integral part of every day for me. I love the buttery texture of oil paint. The tactile experience of creating brush strokes or swiping paint onto canvas is satisfying. I use a variety of tools in the process: palette knives, brushes, squeegees, etc. Texture is created with thick oil paint, adding a bit of walnut oil to the paint when necessary as I am nearing the completion of a piece.
Using color to manipulate light and shadow. Making suggestions with gestural marks, while leaving something to the imagination. There is a story behind every piece. A collector’s impression of that story is not always the same as mine and that is part of the fun!
