Koi bring prosperity as 'Fu,' fish, is a homophone for 'wealth' in Chinese. They are in constant motion as a school coalesces, then separates and merges again. Water is known for healing, lotus for renewal and enlightenment, it echoes enduring life, its challenges, joys and the journey.
Artist Statement:
My work reflects complete, poignant compositions complimenting shapes and forms in the framework of ancient Chinese brushpainting. An artist's vision tells a story: The tale of rabbits and the moon, the courtship of a swallow, the journey of a stallion, the conversation between squirrels, the panda playdate. Paintings are created without sketching, so pieces are unique and emotion is reflected in posture, gesture and body language. Imagery is created from a series of disciplined traditional strokes with bamboo-handled, natural-hair brushes with undulating & linework creating movement.
