Jennifer Risley

Memphis native Jennifer Risley developed a love for photography in her high school black-and-white photography class. While studying pharmacy at Ole Miss, a summer course on the art and architecture of New York City renewed her passion for photography. Several images from that class were published in the University of Mississippi's literary journal, Hyperbole. Jennifer then spent the next summer as a pharmacy intern in Manhattan snapping photos of the city on the weekends. This opportunity resulted in her selection to display work at Oxford's Double Decker Arts Festival and in galleries in both Memphis and Oxford.

Jennifer moved to Richmond, Virginia, in 2005 to pursue a community pharmacy residency with Virginia Commonwealth University. Traveling extensively over the past few years, she has developed a varied portfolio ranging from sweeping landscapes and fine architectural details to street scenes that capture the distinctive urban personalities of cities such as London, Barcelona, Paris, Venice, Rome, San Francisco, and New York. Jennifer prefers the simplicity and elegance of black and white, choosing to focus on unusual perspectives and interesting contrasts.

A Crossroads Art Center artist-in-residence since 2006, Jennifer has had solo exhibitions at Wabi-Sabi in Petersburg and VCU North Hospital in Richmond. Her work is permanently displayed at Paragon National Bank in Memphis and is featured on Chris Milam's CD Leaving Tennessee, as well as in numerous promotional brochures, publications, websites, and even on bicycle jerseys.
