Kathleen Husted

Kathleen Husted has a deep appreciation for nature, and her paintings reflect it. They are inspired by nature’s colors and the effects of light on land. Viewers often comment that her art evokes a peaceful feeling that makes them wish to be in the scene she has painted. Kathleen has a passionate love of trees; when she’s not painting them, she can be found planting them to create a forest on her Virginia farm. For more than 40 years, she has chosen oil paint as a medium for its versatility.

When winter comes, Kathleen heads for the warm, radiant sunlight of Key West, which introduces exciting variety to her plein air pursuits. She finds the nature and architecture of Key West brings things together in a spirit of fun wherever she sets up her easel. She pursues the attractive elements, but also seeks to register an emotional experience with the subject. To do so she wanders away from the original subject to create something more interesting. Her favorite subjects are meandering creeks, forests, colorful gardens, mountain landscapes, and wildlife in its native habitat.

Kathleen has attended the Chicago Art Institute School, the American Academy of Art, and numerous classes and workshops. Her work is available in Stone Soup Gallery in Key West; the Old Elkton Farm in Forest, Virginia; and at Crossroads Art Center. Her work hangs in private homes, offices, hospitals, churches, and is in corporate collections.
