Artist Statement

Life can change in a day, and it did for me when I walked away from the business world after almost 40 years of ladder climbing.  Feeling seriously adrift, I decided to gift myself the painting lessons I had longed to take ever since serving as the publisher of an art magazine. I soon discovered that Thomas Merton was oh so right when he said, "Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time". Indeed, through art, I found so much more than I had lost.

As a relatively new artist (I began painting in oil in early 2019), the canvas is the perfect place to express my creativity, the day’s emotions, and my love of color. I am energized at the easel while using loose, deliberate brushstrokes to bring a painting to life. I enjoy searching for and finding surprising colors and temperature shifts within the light and shadows. I love painting subjects of all matter, from boats to still life, animals, landscapes, and more; really anything that speaks to me.
