GENERAL INFORMATION

Susan Singer's teaching philosophy involves offering you, the student, a rich, engaging, fun, encouraging, resource-laden adventure as you begin or continue your creative journey. She recognizes it can feel intimidating to begin to learn a new skill as an adult, so, especially in the Beginning classes, she teaches discrete skills in a way that they can be learned then mastered. From there, you will learn other skills, and eventually, you'll be able to combine them to create drawings and paintings that will amaze you!

WATERCOLOR SKILL BUILDING FOR ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS

Painting in watercolor can be quite complicated if you dive in headfirst and try to paint a complicated photograph, for example. That’s way too overwhelming, in my humble opinion!

Instead of throwing you off that deep end, I break down the skills you'll need into clearly defined, fairly simple exercises which each teach 1-2 skills. Each skill is taught within the parameter of fun, interesting, and/or beautiful exercises like the one seen here.

By the end of the class, you'll have a set of skills which can be combined to approach a more complicated picture or to paint Urban Sketches, for example. You'll feel confident that you understand how to use the materials well and how to apply them to achieve your desired results.

The class will meet Tuesdays, 6:30 - 9 PM, 1/6 – 2/24, 8 weeks, maximum 12 students, minimum 8. $320 + $10 for materials. Reply to this email to sign up or for more information. (Please read the Cancellation policy below before signing up! Thank you.)

INTERMEDIATE WATERCOLOR

This is a great class if you’ve already taken Beginning Watercolor and want to continue your watercolor journey. In this class, you’ll continue to learn and strengthen your painting skills. In addition, you will learn about famous painters who worked in watercolor and will have a chance to be inspired by and paint like them. (This gives you a chance to expand your repertoire and strengthen your skills.) The emphasis of this class is on learning, exploring, stretching, and, above all, experiencing the pure pleasure of creating!

The class will meet Thursdays, 1/8 – 2/26, 10 – 12:30, for 8 weeks. Maximum 10 students, minimum 6. $320 + $10 materials.  Reply to this email to sign up or for more information. (Please read the Cancellation policy below before signing up! Thank you.)

CONTINUING EDUCATION IN WATERCOLOR

If you have already learned and feel comfortable with the basics of watercolor and want to begin using those tools to express yourself further, come join Continuing Education! In this class, I’ll offer instruction every other week. The other weeks, you get to explore whatever you want to on your own. Those weeks I will be there to offer individualized instruction and support as needed. The topics vary widely from session to session depending on what students want to learn. You might learn about Cezanne and his watercolors and have a chance to paint like Cezanne. Or maybe you’ll use old watercolor paintings you no longer love to create collages. It’s always different and, hopefully!, always fun!

The class will meet Tuesdays, 1/6 – 2/24, 1-3:30, for 8 weeks. Maximum 10 students, minimum 6. $320. Reply to this email to sign up or for more information.  (Please read the Cancellation policy below before signing up! Thank you.)

REVIEWS
“Susan exudes enthusiasm for any art medium she shares with others!”

“Susan is a fantastic teacher. She enthusiastically presents concepts in a way that is easy to understand and provides gentle critiques and advice to bring out the best in her students. I have taken two courses with her and greatly appreciate all that I have learned from her. Side note: she is one of the most optimistic, happy people I have ever met, and her enthusiasm is contagious.”

“Always upbeat and encouraging. She values the artist in each student!”

“Susan is inspiration. She makes you believe you can do anything.”

“I am a rank beginner but Susan, born teacher that she is, has more patience with me than I have with myself.   I’ve learned a lot in her classes and would highly recommend!    Jean Salter”

"Susan has been an inspiration to me. Her creative approach to teaching -- and art -- has helped me grow as a watercolor art student. She emphasizes technique, which is something students can carry with them wherever they create art. "Michele R“
