GENERAL INFORMATION

Susan Singer's teaching philosophy involves offering you, the student, a rich, engaging, fun, encouraging, resource-laden adventure as you begin or continue your creative journey. She recognizes it can feel intimidating to begin to learn a new skill as an adult, so, especially in the Beginning classes, she teaches discrete skills in a way that they can be learned then mastered. From there, you will learn other skills, and eventually, you'll be able to combine them to create drawings and paintings that will amaze you!

DRAWING FOR ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS

When I mention to people that I am an artist, some of them will say, “Oh, I could never be an artist! I can’t even draw a straight line!”

I feel sad when people condemn themselves so blithely to that self-assessment because Drawing is actually a SKILL. Just like anything else, it is something that can be learned. True, there are people who have extraordinary talent, those who were born able to draw, but most of us mere mortals have to learn to draw the hard way – through skill building and practice. It’s like learning to play an instrument – there are people who can play by ear and never have to take a lesson – I am in awe of them! – but most of us have to take lessons and practice. Drawing is like that.

In this class, I will present you with a series of lessons which will help you learn to SEE the world and to build your skill as you learn how to render it in graphite, charcoal, and ink. By the end of the class, you’ll be delighted by your newfound abilities and will feel remarkably solid in your ability to draw what you see before you.

Monday evenings, 6:30 – 9 PM, 6/22 – 8/3, 6 weeks with no class 7/20, $240 plus $10 supply fee. Please email SusanSingerArt@msn.com to sign up or to get more information. Minimum 6 students, maximum 10. Classes are held at Susan’s home studio near Trader Joe’s Southside.

“I am a rank beginner but Susan, born teacher that she is, has more patience with me than I have with myself.  I’ve learned a lot in her classes and would highly recommend!" -Jean Salter
