"The Hall of Independence” is a mixed-media piece inspired by Independence Hall in Philadelphia, where the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution were created. Using watercolors, oil pastels, Caran d’Ache crayons, pens, and colored pencils, I blend expressionism, semi-realism, and loose sketching to highlight American values.

Artist's Statement:

My name is Jamea, and I am an 18-year-old artist who has been drawing and painting consistently for seven years. Being homeschooled through Liberty Online Academy and my parents has shaped my perspective, inspiring me to create art that reflects the places I visit and the everyday moments, people, animals, and architecture that catch my eye. Through my work, I aim to share my own interpretation with the world.

I graduated from high school and am currently a junior at Virginia State University. In addition to visual art, I am passionate about choir, sewing, violin, piano, and even video games, all of which influence my creative process. Music, in particular, inspires the mood and rhythm of my pieces. When people view my art, I hope they see it the way I do or in their own way.
