Andromeda Calkins
Andromeda Calkins received her BFA in Painting and Printmaking, from Virginia Commonwealth University in May of 2022. Since then she has entered multiple exhibitions attempting to make her footprint in the ever-growing art world. Born in Italy and moving around Europe as a young child gave her the experience of different cultures that can be present in her work. From dancing with Degas' ballerinas in England to wandering the rooms of the VMFA, Andromeda is always looking for new inspiration.
"My practice creates objects of tension and exposure. The vibrancy of color in my work augments an intense emotion that feeds into tension that is already found in the piece. My goal is to create an atmosphere that makes you feel as if you were at a party and the lights have just been turned on. I believe that this represents society today where you are thrown into unexpected messes and you either learn to roll with it or get swept up in the aftermath."
