I used to live in the Lucky Strike building and would often go to Libby Hill to watch the sunrise or sunset and this piece carries a lot of wonderful memories from that time.
Artist Statement
My art is an inseparable part of me. Even in the darkest and most disruptive of times, I am compelled to create - to shed light on the shadows of my life with each brushstroke. I have faced challenges, from being raised in a cult and serving during the war in Iraq to holding my best friend's hand during an abortion and caring for a loved one disintegrating under the powerful grip of ALS. Through it all, I continued to paint - to attempt something beautiful in the midst of the mess. Art is not just how I express myself. It is my coping mechanism - a way for me to momentarily escape reality and bring order to the chaos by designing my own place of peace on canvas. While my art may provoke thought or bring peace to others, rarely is that my intention. My focus is always to create quality work that resonates with others, I am content knowing the meaning behind each piece may emerge for me alone.
