A fast and furious snowstorm engages the great James River at Richmond's Pony Pasture. A star illuminates the surrounding riverscape while the rising moon portends of more drama to come. The work comes beautifully framed in polished black lexan with an attached canvas spacer.

Artist's Statement:

My name is Jos Biviano and I am a landscape painter. I’m fascinated by environmental events such as storms, geological eruptions and unexplained ethereal displays of light and how they shape or reshape the natural environment. My paintings glorify Nature and evoke the transcendental images celebrated by the nineteenth-century Luminist School of Art. My paintings are marked by forceful and dramatic displays of light & shadow, intense color, and Turner-like atmospheric effects. My objective is to push the viewer for an emotional response. My paintings often depict the land with no elements of human intervention. I enjoy painting landscapes bathed in late afternoon sunlight when color harmonies are most pronounced.
