Lathe Turned Wood with Carved Accents

This decorative footed vessel was turned from spalted beech and the removable finial was turned from Brazilian ebony. It looks like it is ready to blast off so I named it "The Rocket"

Artist's Statement:

My woodturning adventure began back in 2012 and over time my skills have improved and I have developed my own creative style. I primarily create lathe turned hollow and open forms in wood from native Virginia trees. I try to work with wood from trees that were felled by a storm, disease or for safety reasons. I like to embellish my work with various carving techniques, coloring and wood burning. Though the trees I work with are no longer living they still live on in my creations.
