The Magic of May

Oil on Canvas
$1500
These flowers grew from plants I bought 35 years ago. They have moved with me several times. In Victorian times, they were given to communicate the message, May I make amends? A lovely sentiment. Who can resist these gorgeous blooms?! They are definitely my favorites.
Artist's Statement:
My work is a visual record of my life experience. Moments captured in paint on canvas. It might be a comical situation with the chickens, a sweet moment with a grandchild, or an interesting view seen while out walking. I paint every day. I love the buttery texture of oil paint. The tactile experience of swiping paint onto canvas is satisfying. I use a variety of tools in the process: palette knives, brushes, squeegees, etc. Texture is created with thick oil paint, adding a bit of cold wax to the paint when necessary. Using color to manipulate light and shadow. Making suggestions with gestural marks, while leaving something to the imagination. There is a story behind every piece. A collector’s impression of that story is not always the same as mine and that is part of the fun!
