Artist Statement

I began my career in the early 1990’s as an award-winning portrait artist working primarily in oils. In addition to portrait work, I also paint large, and small scale still life, wildlife, and landscapes. I have also developed a distinctive abstract style, primarily using acrylics overlaid with mixed media. My abstracts have been described as being “pure, intense, and intuitive”, as well as being “joyful” and “playful”. Although I consider myself to be self-taught, I enjoyed the tutelage of two renowned local artists who have graciously shared their vast knowledge with me: Irene Perry and Curney Nuffer. I also have gallery representation through Crossroads Art Center, and Stravitz Gallery in Virginia Beach.
