Katy Haskell

Katy Haskell first felt her passion for art while on a chance visit to the Art Institute of Chicago while in middle school.  To be surrounded by art became an emotional experience, a feeling that Katy never forgot.

Surrounding herself with creativity became a theme in Katy’s career.  She worked in both advertising and marketing, energized by minds who sought to make emotional connections using photography, graphic designs and compelling copywriting.  After the birth of her first child, Katy left the working world and began dabbling in creative pursuits at home.  Finding local classes in photography, drawing, and, finally, oil painting, Katy used any free time she had to study art in the studio.

When approaching a painting, Katy considers the emotional response she wants the painting to evoke with its viewer.  In evaluating her subjects, she will often have the painting’s title in mind before laying paint to canvas. From concept to completion, she captures the atmosphere, the light, and mood of her subject.

Painting is part of Katy’s soul.  If she is not painting, she is doing prework on paintings through sketches, value studies and color studies.  Every part of the process is a part of a creative puzzle, and it is such a celebratory feeling when the brushes get put away and the art is finally hung on the wall.
