Artist Statement:

My photography is influenced by photo journalism and fine arts. I like it real. I choose a more editorial approach to photography than many. I have worked extensively printing my own work in the darkroom. I have done a great deal of experimentation with toner and hand coloring. And I have developed strong digital skills as well.    I was a student at the University of Maryland in the mid-1970s. After two years there, I transferred to the Corcoran into their BFA program, where I received the award for studio arts for my class. I was also given a Ford Foundation Grant which was an enormous help as I was raising my three children on my own after an early divorce. My work experience is both full time and freelance and includes sculpture, graphic design, illustration and photography. Photography has been my medium of preference for the past 30 years. I have strong interests in cultural differences and challenges, and I also have an increasing interest in environmental issues.    I am a recent widow and have lived in Fredericksburg for five years. Family is extremely important to me and gatherings with my kids and grandkids are wonderful.
