The Peony at Clifton Inn
48 x 48", framed to 49.5 x 49.5 x 1.5"
Oil on Canvas
$3800
I saw this peony in the gardens of Clifton Inn when taking a walk during an event. I wanted to explore the numerous layers and organic shapes which make up such a beautifully intricate flower. Specifically, I wanted to flower how expressive mark making could translate into light and transparency.
Artist's Statement:
My work explores the quiet, visceral connection between humans and the natural world. Through oil painting and charcoal, I am drawn to animals, figures, and botanical forms as vessels for emotion, vulnerability, and instinct. I approach these subjects with a balance of observation and intuition, allowing gesture, texture, and expressive mark-making to guide the work. My paintings seek to capture something beyond the physical; a fleeting sense of presence, a shared tenderness, or the mysterious familiarity of the living world.
