The Hour Between explores the fleeting light at the edge of day, when the landscape quiets and color becomes more atmospheric than descriptive. Working with oil and cold wax, I use broad gestures and layered surfaces to evoke the stillness and shifting luminosity of that transitional moment, where form softens and the familiar world becomes briefly suspended.
Artist Statement:
My work explores landscape, floral, and figurative forms through oil and cold wax, focusing on the space between representation and abstraction. Rather than depicting specific places or narratives, the paintings aim to distill an atmosphere or emotional residue—what remains after an experience rather than a record of it.
Process is central to the work. Layers are built, scraped back, and reworked, allowing earlier marks to remain visible and creating a sense of time and accumulation. The paintings are intended to invite sustained looking, offering a quiet, grounded presence that leaves room for the viewer’s own interpretation.
