Pamela James

CONTEMPORARY REALIST IN OIL

Pamela James is a contemporary realist working in oil with a concentration on still life. She paints from life using objects that are calculated and often unexpected in combination. Her work is intended to create new cycles of thought and association, providing a challenge to one’s assumptions and ideas.

Pamela was born and raised in Texas and moved to Richmond in 2020. She began painting at the age of seven in Dallas, Texas under the guidance of her grandfather – a WWII veteran, teacher, and realist painter. She stopped painting at the age of 18 and entered the corporate world leaving behind dreams of being an artist. In 2001 she decided to leave her job and pursue oil painting as a career. She enrolled and graduated from the Texas Academy of Figurative Art. She has studied under several realist painters and taught in Fort Worth, Texas with an emphasis on color theory. Pamela is a signature member of Oil Painters of America and American Woman Artist.
