The most popular driver in NASCAR history and his ability to intimidate on the track inspired me to create this piece of art after his fatal crash at the Daytona 500 NASCAR race on February 18, 2001. With this piece of art, I was able to launch a short NASCAR art career drawing other drivers.
Artist's Statement:
The photo-realistic paintings of contemporary/traditional artist Richie Mosley offer a glimpse of the hidden, intricate lives and landscapes of his subjects. Arresting for their startling, finely detailed rendering, Richie’s paintings—which express his passion for art, jazz, and the spiritual side of life—garner attention and praise wherever seen.
After a successful career in pencil portraits, Richie transitioned to color paintings to appeal to a broader audience. Working in acrylics, watercolor, and color pencil, Richie’s vibrant portraits and landscapes give viewers a purposeful, spiritual look into the everyday lives of his subjects. Area exhibitions of Richie’s recent work include VMFA Studio School Art Gallery in Richmond, VA and the Perkinson Center for the Arts in Chester, VA.
Richie currently lives in Chester, VA. When not drawing or painting, he enjoys playing the trumpet for the Richmond Concert Band and spending time with his family and friends.
