Inspired by the Musical Chicago and the character Velma Kelly. The musical is a celebration of jazz music and the flashy life of the 20s. I wanted to make a piece that reflected the atmosphere of the musical.

Artist Statement:

My practice creates objects of tension and exposure. The vibrancy of color in my work augments an intense emotion that feeds into tension that is already found in the piece. My goal is to create an atmosphere that makes you feel as if you were at a party and the lights have just been turned on. I believe that this represents society today where you are thrown into unexpected messes and you either learn to roll with it or get swept up in the mess.
