ABOUT PORTER SMITH-THAYER
Born into a family of artists, Porter grew up surrounded by crayons, pencils, paint, brushes, music, dance and theater. A graduate of Ohio University in Athens, she majored in design and modern dance. After attending additional college drawing courses in Atlanta, Porter pursued a career in graphic design, always keeping her toe in the fine arts.
After retiring from her Richmond based business, Graphic Presentations, Porter began taking oil painting classes. She immersed herself in painting and learning from others, as well as enjoying the company of artists. She’s thrilled to share her work in art shows, listen to critiques of her work and to discover new ways to make art.
Porter’s fascination with rusty parts from a variety of found objects has led her to try new ways of working with cloth, wood and metal as well as oils, acrylics and cold wax.
