Renee Gleason

Renee’s interest in art began in her twenties, but not until retiring from a career in clinical social work was she able to pursue this love of painting full-time. She has worked in acrylic and watercolor, but enjoys the flexibility of oil and now paints almost exclusively in it. She is inspired by light and color, which is evident in her vibrant paintings of flowers, interiors, and landscapes. She finds the process of developing a painting an interesting puzzle and enjoys weaving her way through it from beginning to end. Her goal is to capture the essence, convey the feeling, and draw the viewer into the painting.

Although a native of North Carolina, she has lived more than 30 years in the Richmond, Virginia, area. Her art education began in college where she took classes in drawing and painting at both Purdue University and Indiana University. She has taken classes and workshops from many local artists/teachers in both Virginia and North Carolina.

She is a member of James River Art League, Virginia Plein air Painters, and Crossroads Art Center.
