Planes, trains, and automobiles, oh my! Crossroads Art Center invites our Gallery Members to submit artwork for our upcoming exhibition, Planes, Trains, and Automobiles—a celebration of the power of transportation. Whether you’re inspired by fast cars, or flying planes, we want to see your unique interpretation of the theme.

Planes • Trains • Automobiles — The Art of Motion, Travel & Adventure

Crossroads Art Center invites artists to take viewers on a journey in “Planes • Trains • Automobiles,” a themed exhibition celebrating the vehicles, movement, and spirit of travel that connect us across landscapes and through time. This show highlights everything that moves us—literally and creatively.

From vintage cars and classic locomotives to modern jets, urban transit, open-road nostalgia, road trips, railways, airports, bicycles, highways, and the energy of motion itself, we welcome artwork that explores the world of transportation in all its forms.

Theme Inspiration

• Retro travel posters and transportation nostalgia

• Road trips, railways, flight paths

• Engines, mechanics, and industrial details

• Motion, speed, rhythm, and movement

• Transit stations, bridges, runways, and highways

• Stories of travel, adventure, connection, and change

• Abstract interpretations of motion, direction, or mapping

Your artwork may be literal, symbolic, figurative, or entirely abstract—as long as it connects to how we move.

Eligible Media

Painting, sculpture, mixed media, digital art, photography, fiber, wood, metal, ceramics, assemblage, and more.

Important Dates:

·         Call for Entry: August 1-16, 2026

·         Artist Notification: Friday, August 21, 2026

·         Artwork Drop Off: Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026 – Friday, Sept. 11, 2026 by Noon

·         Exhibition Opening Reception: Friday, November 8, 2026 | 5–8PM

·         Exhibition Closes: Sunday, November 10, 2026

Submission Fees:

·         $15 per entry (up to 3 entries)

Commission Structure:

·         70% to Artist | 30% to Crossroads Art Center
