Up on the Ridge
16 x 20", framed to 22.88 x 26.75"
Oil on Panel

This painting was inspired by the morning fog beginning the day up on a ridge on the Skyline Drive. The fog creeping up behind the fall colors and the juxtaposition of the houses against the height of the mountains was what drew me into the scene.
Artist's Statement
I ended a successful career as a financial advisor to raise my 2 children. In 2015, when both kids were in college I started painting and launched a second career as an oil painter. I am a "left-brained" artist and have a need to finish a painting before starting another. I am obsessed with painting en plein air, and have recently been attending plein air events around the country to gain more knowledge about painting in nature, and also work in my studio from photographs. I love to travel to Europe for plein air retreats with groups of artists. My strength is color mixing, and painting the Caribbean sea and the Blue Ridge Mountains are favorite subjects for me. I live in Charlottesville, Virginia and have had multiple shows around the area and have been in several group shows as well. I have mentored with plein air artist Lori Putnam and am constantly studying with other artists to improve my skills. I work primarily in oil, but also work with oil and cold wax in my studio.
