Artist's Statement:
In my art space, my work is born in layers. I paint with heat. I fuse ideas and stories into beeswax. I carve and scrape back to reveal what might be hidden - always looking for what light breaks through. There is imperfection and intention.
I love that encaustic wax is a very forgiving media - pieces can be visited over and over again and are never necessarily complete. It is not only visually interesting, it is also incredibly durable. Wax paintings can be touched - by children and adults without fingerprinting! The use of heat allows for many interesting textures, and wax is completely impervious to water. Creating with encaustic wax is an old style of painting that has become new again!
